17th Annual Birdville Cemetery Reunion

The 17th annual reunion at the Birdville Cemetery will be held on May 18, 2013. Roger Brooks will talk to us about the history of Watauga which should be very interesting. We will meet from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM BHS will furnish fried chicken, drinks, paper products and you are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. We have always enjoyed meeting at this historic cemetery and should all have a great time.
Looking forward to seeing you!
November Meeting
If you did not get to join us for the November meeting, you missed a great experience. Michael Patterson is one of the leading authorities on the Civil War as it pertains to citizens of Northeast Tarrant County. He presented a very informative program and talked about some folks that we all know or at least have heard of. There were 38 members present and the evening was very enjoyable. Thanks Michael!
Michael Patterson has also been busy to acquire a marker for William G Knuckles, a confederate veteran who lived in Birdville and is buried in Birdville Cemetery. BHS will host a dedication ceremony later this year and you will be notified of the date. Michael, with the help of Jimmy Reynolds has installed 4 markers in the Birdville Cemetery since the November meeting.
New Shelves
We now have a “Dirty Room” at the museum. This is a place where collections are held until there is time to accession them into our permanent collection. We had shelves built that will hold these collections and the next time you visit, we will be happy to show them to you.
Joe Reynolds, Pat Davenport and myself are busy listing all of our collection into a computer data base. We have collected thousands of items that now need to be accessioned into the museum which will keep us busy for quite some time. If you would be interested in volunteering, we would certainly enjoy having you. We would like to keep the museum open all week if we had other volunteers. Just one day a week for 4 hours is all you would need to do and it would help tremendously. Maybe you would just like to work a few hours when you had the time, we can use you.

Deadline to Purchase
Bricks Is Over
Birdville Museum is working with BISD to prepare the area to place the bricks. We are hoping to have them installed by mid to late summer. The profit from the sales allowed the museum to purchase the big screen TV and have it installed with a blue ray player.
The DVD is currently being produced and edited and it will take me some time to complete the editing. There is so much information about this area and I don’t want to lose any of it. I am very excited about being able to share with all of you the interviews we have made with such as Wylie G. Thomas, Leslie Angle, Julius Bussey, May Della Everett and others about their thoughts on Birdville and the rich history that is part of our area. It is well worth preserving and I know you will be proud to own this DVD.
The museum will have the DVDs for sale upon completion.
If you have relatives or friends who would like to bequeath items to the Birdville Historical Society, we are recognized by the IRS as an official 501©3 organization and all donations will be tax deductible. In the case of a death in your family, you can be assured that any donations made in memory or in honor of your loved one in the way of photos, documents or historical objects, will be preserved in the best way possible. This is one way to insure that the work of preservation will continue in Birdville and would be a great time for you to contribute to the future of preservation in our hometown.
If you have not had opportunity to join or pay your dues for 2013, please do so at this time. Mail your checks or contributions to Birdville Historical Society, P.O. Box 14246, Haltom City, Texas 76117
